Southside of Heaven

There are two things that we all desire: to be loved and to be accepted for who we are. Sometimes life punches us in the face and knocks us down. We have to make a choice at that point to either stay down, or get back up and move forward. One of the goals at Southside is to discover our identity in God, understanding that our identity is not determined by our past failures or success. We have just enough willpower to change a few behaviors, but not enough to completely change the direction of our lives. Finding foundation in God and allowing Him in to work will bring the change we so desire and need. Southside is about being community. Living life out together; encouraging each other in truth. Together we build an atmosphere of grace and a place of new beginnings.

This book may be the best investment you ever make into the lifelong welfare of your children.

Get the help you need for raising your kids to take responsibility for their actions, attitudes, and emotions. Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend take you through the ins and outs of instilling the kind of character in your children that will help them lead balanced, productive, and fulfilling adult lives. Learn how to:

  • Set limits and still be a loving parent.
  • Bring control to a chaotic family life.
  • Define age-appropriate boundaries and consequences for your kid

Boundaries with Kids helps us give our kids the skills they need to live realistic and full lives in meaningful relationships. Not perfect—but healthy!”

Elisa Morgan – President of MOPS International, Inc.

Boundaries with Kids has helped my husband and I to not only be on the same page with our discipline methods but also to really focus on how our three kids’ behaviors right now in the present will affect their future when they are on their own. It has helped us to set boundaries for them and is also teaching our kids to learn to set firm boundaries on their own with their lives. I’ve yet to find a book on raising children that is so clear and effective and really guides you through how to be an effective parent for the good of your kids’ future.”

Georgina V. D. – California

This class will begin Sunday April 10th at 9:15 am during 2nd service in Room 5. Please send us an email if you would like to attend. Books are available for $5 in the office. Space is limited, so sign up today!

Please let us know if you are interested or if you have any questions.

New Life

I stepped outside the other morning to a crisp clear day ahead. I wanted to stroll through my back yard to check on the progress of anything growing. I know it was too early to really experience any real growth but the anticipation of spring gets me pretty excited. Our apricot tree buds are swelling and the oat grass on our back hill is putting out new growth. Of all things the chives in our herb garden are beginning again. As I perused various pots and beds I noticed in our large flower garden a veritable carpet of tiny little green plants. Weeds! Of course they would be coming up! But I also noticed no other plants have started growing yet. I grabbed the roundup and let fly the first wave of chemical warfare in our back yard! Taking care of those weeds now is going to save a lot of time weeding come later spring and summer. It will also allow our choice flowers room to grow without being choked out by the pesky undergrowth.

Spring is a time of year that reminds us that new life is coming. I believe that with my entire being. God is bringing new life to each of us, new life in him overflowing with His presence, power and purpose. As God begins this work don’t be surprise as he points out and uproots some pesky weeds in our life. Things that will seek to choke out his work and be a lot more difficult to deal with down the road. Old patterns, habits, expectations, formulas, methods and understanding sometimes need to be pulled up to make room for a new season of life! It’s not always an easy process but so worth having the Master Gardner attend to the care of our souls. Enjoy this season of new life and freedom that God has for each of us!

Building Project!

Stacked Stones on Sand --- Image by © Tim McGuire/CORBISWe met as a church body to rejoice in God’s faithfulness to us over this past year and discuss some direction for the new season in front of us. The two main items that were brought before us for discussion and voting were the opportunity to purchase the Southside building at 211 Fir and moving forward with our expansion plan on the current facility. After much prayer, discussion and questions both items passed with an overwhelming majority of 95% and 93%! We will be moving forward with both of these items and will continue to post information as we have it. Thank you for your continued prayers as we seek to follow the leading of the Lord!

Architectural drawings of the building expansion are available in the office.

Project Cost: $1,600,000 – $1,800,000

Project Cost  includes: the building itself, 25% contingency required by Foursquare, and $200,000 for furnishings and equipment.

Pre-approved for a loan amount of: $1,200,000

We would be going through Foursquare Financial Solutions. The interest rate is 4.5%-5.5. Interest paid into this loan goes to funding ministry.

Amount required before loan can be procured: $240,000

Foursquare requires 20% down. However, we would need to have $600,000 to move forward with a 1.8 million dollar building if our approved amount stays the same.

Monthly payments on $1,200,000

The estimated payments after construction would be:

$6,781.16 with a 4.5% rate

$7,132.00 for a 5% rate

$7,491.87 for a 5.5% rate

Quote taken from Foursquare Financial Solutions

We are asking you to pray about giving towards the building fund. Currently, we would need to raise $497,778.39 to move forward with the building project. After that, as a family, we would need to make the monthly payments. Which if 200 of us give $50/month we would more than cover it!

If you would like to give to the building fund, you can make checks out to Faith Center and put ‘Building Fund’ on the memo line, or place cash in an envelope labeled ‘Building Fund.’

City Week

cityweekSpring is coming!  As the days become longer, the valley comes alive with energy and the new life always beckons for adventure. We have already had hints of the coming season, and I am confident this Spring is going to stir in us a sense of Gods wonder and desire of exploration. There will be families headed on vacation and groups headed out on mission trips, and I urge students to pray about their opportunities and to take advantage of what is available. As the excitement comes with Spring, with many people head in different direction to enjoy family and friends, it struck me: What about the people right here in my city? We are called to love people and make disciples, sharing the gospel to all corners of the earth, and that starts right in our backyard.

Enter CITY WEEK. This spring, we once again have an exceptional and exciting opportunity for high school age students. Each of the four days of City Week will bring different service activities, meals, and a whole lot of fun as we take a mission trip to our city. The goal is to not only serve our community but to also build a team of servant hearted individuals. We will start each day at 10AM at the church with breakfast, a small group prayer time, and a word from a guest speaker. Each afternoon will have lunch and a service activity with a different and unique purpose to serve our community.  We will then gather for a group devotional before dinner together. After dinner we will take part in a fun group activity to continue to build and refresh our team. After the fun activity, we will return to our own beds to recharge to do it all over again the following day.

I am passionate about raising up young adults with a drive and desire to practically serve one another, looking to our neighbors not to see and compare what they have, but to see how we can serve and show Gods love with them. In order to get the most of the experience, we will have PRE-City Week meetings. Prior to Spring Break, the team will meet the first three Wednesdays of March, meeting before youth group from 5:30-6:30.This will allow us to gather collectively and grow together, preparing our hearts to serve. The cost of the week is $60 to cover meals, transportation, and evening activities. During our Pre-City Week meetings we can discuss fund raising opportunities for students to do during the weeks leading up to City Week.

City Week is an opportunity to serve, and not just for our students! Our congregation can come along side these young people and champion them on in prayer as they step into the desires of our loving Father. We can also practically serve our youth threw sponsorships and food. If you are interested in sponsoring a student to participate in City Week, and/or provide one of the 12 meals we have scheduled for the week, please talk with Pastor Cameron.  Thank you for your prayers and support!

FCYM Dough Drive

doughdriveEveryone loves fresh baked cookies, and what an incredible way to serve and show love to our youth! We are launching a cookie dough drive for Faith Center Youth Ministries! We are looking for parents (or anyone with a delicious cookie dough recipe) to bring in cookie dough to be made into fresh baked cookies at youth groups. We will be freezing the dough and thawing it for groups on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, so bring it in dough balls or even just in a large sealed bags so we can place it in the freezer. Enough dough to serve 3-4 dozen students per group would be wonderful! Please include cooking times and temps. If you have any questions please let Pastor Cameron know.
