Southside of Heaven

211 Fir Street in La Grande

 Vision: Love the Broken

Mission: Love unconditionally. Engage culture on culture’s turf. Have a sense of community and belonging. A safe place to encounter God. Teach and live truth. Create an atmosphere of Grace. A place of new beginnings.

Southside Perspective: There are two things that we all desire: to be loved and to be accepted for who we are. Sometimes life punches us in the face and knocks us down. We have to make a choice at that point to either stay down, or get back up and move forward. One of the goals at Southside is to discover our identity in God, understanding that our identity is not determined by our past failures or success. We have just enough willpower to change a few behaviors, but not enough to completely change the direction of our lives. Finding Foundation in God and allowing Him in to work will bring the change we so desire and need. Southside is about being community. Living life out together; encouraging each other in truth. Together we build an atmosphere of grace and a place of new beginnings.

Building Expansion

pushpayappThe expansion process of adding a new sanctuary, foyer space and classrooms has begun! We are excited to share what is happening, where we are going and how we all can be involved.

  • We are currently in the design phase with PKA Architects out of Portland. We have a general plan for overall view and are continuing work on a 3d rendering.
  • You will see some minor disturbance to the parking lot out front in the weeks to come as we work to get soil samples to test for our upcoming structure.
  • The building fund has been established and we are seeing finances begin to flow in as we move towards our goal of $600,000.

As we continue with this process I am asking that we would seek the Lord for his provision, wisdom and direction for this new adventure! I would also ask that we would each pray about how the Lord would lead us to partner financially in our new building. You can give with check or cash in the office or during offering and mark “building fund” in the memo line or on the giving envelope. You can also sign up for our online giving option by texting lg4square to 77977 or go to lg4square.com and click on GIVE.

The least expensive way for the church, with online giving, is to give directly from your bank account but you can give through debit or credit cards as well.

This type of expansion requires all of us to work together to see this vision become reality, both in prayer and financial support. This new building is for way more than just housing our current numbers. This new space gives us room to expand and grow as more people come into God’s kingdom! Currently we are averaging around 550 during our three Sunday morning services. Our current sanctuary seats approximately 230 people right now. The new sanctuary we are looking to build will seat right around 388-400 people. This will allow us to move to two services with room to grow! It also allows for utilization of our current sanctuary for our Youth, Children’s Ministry and as a multi purpose meeting room.

I am excited to see all God has for us as a family here at Faith Center to follow him into this new season in front of us!

FC Family Time!

As we continue to envision our theme of Gather-Grow-Go we sense a new and different direction to connect and reach. We would like to introduce Faith Center Family Time! Each of these events has been designed to provide opportunity for families to connect as a unit, grow in relationships and as a safe place to invite friends and neighbors. We look forward to a summer of fun, connections and reaching out as family!

  • July 16th Family day at Wolf Creek Reservoir. Swimming. Fishing. Floating. 11am-?? Pack your family a lunch. We will be heading to Wolf Creek reservoir for a day of sunning on the beach and floating in the water. Pastor Will and his family will be at the lake from 11-4 but everyone is welcome to arrive and depart at their own leisure. Boats are welcome and encouraged!
  • August 6th Family day at Pendleton Aquatic Center (we’ve rented the facility!) 10am-? Lunch Provided. We have reserved the facility for a private party from 10-12 when they open to the public. Admission is free, but limited to the first 75 people who sign up in the church office. At noon we will be serving up hotdogs, hamburgers, and all the fixings and families are welcome to stay as long as they would like!
  • August 19-21 Church Camping Trip at Red Bridge State Wayside. This is the weekend of the church picnic at Camp Elkanah. We will be camping from Friday to Sunday and heading up to Camp Elkanah on Sunday morning for church.  We have tent sites guaranteed, but RV sites are first come, first served. If you are planning on coming, please sign up in the church office so we can do our best to guarantee you a spot!

WHAT READERS ARE SAYING ABOUT BOUNDARIES WITH KIDS

Boundaries with Kids helps us give our kids the skills they need to live realistic and full lives in meaningful relationships. Not perfect—but healthy!”

Elisa Morgan – President of MOPS International, Inc.

Boundaries with Kids has helped my husband and I to not only be on the same page with our discipline methods but also to really focus on how our three kids’ behaviors right now in the present will affect their future when they are on their own. It has helped us to set boundaries for them and is also teaching our kids to learn to set firm boundaries on their own with their lives. I’ve yet to find a book on raising children that is so clear and effective and really guides you through how to be an effective parent for the good of your kids’ future.”

Georgina V. D. – California

This class will begin Sunday April 10th at 9:15 am during 2nd service in Room 5. Please send us an email if you would like to attend. Books are available for $5 in the office. Space is limited, so sign up today!

New Life

I stepped outside the other morning to a crisp clear day ahead. I wanted to stroll through my back yard to check on the progress of anything growing. I know it was too early to really experience any real growth but the anticipation of spring gets me pretty excited. Our apricot tree buds are swelling and the oat grass on our back hill is putting out new growth. Of all things the chives in our herb garden are beginning again. As I perused various pots and beds I noticed in our large flower garden a veritable carpet of tiny little green plants. Weeds! Of course they would be coming up! But I also noticed no other plants have started growing yet. I grabbed the roundup and let fly the first wave of chemical warfare in our back yard! Taking care of those weeds now is going to save a lot of time weeding come later spring and summer. It will also allow our choice flowers room to grow without being choked out by the pesky undergrowth.

Spring is a time of year that reminds us that new life is coming. I believe that with my entire being. God is bringing new life to each of us, new life in him overflowing with His presence, power and purpose. As God begins this work don’t be surprise as he points out and uproots some pesky weeds in our life. Things that will seek to choke out his work and be a lot more difficult to deal with down the road. Old patterns, habits, expectations, formulas, methods and understanding sometimes need to be pulled up to make room for a new season of life! It’s not always an easy process but so worth having the Master Gardner attend to the care of our souls. Enjoy this season of new life and freedom that God has for each of us!
